Our super favourite and most frequently used ‘laugh out loud’ ?  emoji is now the world’s most popular emoji, says 2021 Global Emoji Trend Report. The findings have derived after researchers from Adobe surveyed 7,000 users across the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Australia, and South Korea. The findings of the survey were released by the software maker on Thursday. 

This comes days before the world is about to observe Emoji Day on Saturday.

While the ‘laugh out loud ?’ secured the first position in the report, the second position was given to the ‘thumbs up ?’ emoji. Subsequently, the ‘red heart ❤️’ emoji was ranked third, the flirtatious “wink and kiss”? emoji was fourth and the “sad face with a tear” ? emoji made it to the top five by securing the last rank.

Amid debates that emojis are not useful for social media users, the study also found that a vast majority of emoji users (90%) believe the modern-day hieroglyphs make it easier for them to express themselves, 89% said emojis simplify communication across language barriers. And 67% said they think people who use emojis are friendlier, funnier and cooler than those who don’t.

“Emoji sometimes get criticised for being overly saccharine, but this sweetness is key when it comes to diffusing some of the heaviness of online communication. I am encouraged by this particular statistic,’ wrote Adobe‘s typeface designer and font developer Paul D. Hunt in his blog post.

Well, watching our favourite emojis that make our day to day conversations easier and much more fun getting the respect they deserve is a great feeling. It becomes better when World Emoji Day is around the corner.
