Threads, a rival to Twitter by Meta, is scheduled to debut on July 6th, according to the app’s listing on the App Store. This date from the App Store seems to provide supporters their first definitive date for when we should be able to download the app. Threads with screenshots and some preliminary information had appeared on Google Play on Saturday, but a listing people saw there didn’t contain a release date.

According to Forbes, the app intends to unite groups around conversations about a range of subjects and connections with supported creators.

The announcement comes in response to previous Twitter disputes around user limits and disagreements with Bluesky, a rival company created by Jack Dorsey.

At launch, Threads, a hybrid of Instagram and Twitter, is anticipated to draw both current Instagram users and new ones.

As a “sanely run” platform, Meta has positioned the app while advertisers are wary of Twitter due to its ties to far-right figures.
