Since its new CEO Elon Musk gave staff an ultimatum asking them to commit to a “hardcore” working environment or accept a buyout, Twitter appears to have slipped deeper into anarchy.

According to reports, the action led to a mass departure at Twitter, and as a result, hashtags like “RIP Twitter” and “Damn Twitter” began to trend on the website. Many users said goodbye to Twitter, but some were reminded of Orkut, a former social networking platform that was discontinued in 2014.

Orkut was created by Orkut Büyükkökten, a Turkish software engineer who previously worked at Google. It was founded in 2004 and is currently owned and operated by Google. However, it was shut down in June 2014 due to dwindling user numbers as a result of the popularity of other social media platforms, particularly Facebook and Instagram.

For many people who had fond memories of using Orkut, the Twitter crisis brought back those memories through humorous memes and messages.

“Us 90’s kids recollecting their nostalgic memories of 2008 upon seeing Orkut trending high on this haywired Twitter,” a user tweeted.

Another tweeted , “Twitter’s sudden death will never be as traumatic as watching Orkut gradually depopulate and decay.”

“Once upon a time there was a social media named Orkut. good old days,” a third user tweeted.

Many Twitter users had fond memories of Orkut. Many people supported the call to bring back Orkut.

Musk has turned the company into a rollercoaster in his short tenure, and one can only hope that all of his promises are kept in the best possible way. He also recently announced that on November 29, his newly acquired social media company, Twitter, will relaunch its subscription-based service, Twitter Blue. The billionaire tycoon stated on Twitter, “Punting relaunch of Blue Verified to November 29th to ensure that it is rock solid.”

After its initial launch, the social media giant suspended the service after a number of fake-but-verified accounts began to appear. These accounts also caused significant disruptions in the stock market.

The “Official” tag has previously been launched, cancelled, and relaunched on several accounts. Twitter will keep the blue tick available for important media figures, publishing houses, government offices, and others, while also tagging them as “Official.”
