Radiography Day is celebrated on November 8 to mark the anniversary of the
discovery of X-radiation or X-rays. On November 8, 1895, German scientist
Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen made the discovery of X-rays. In 1901,
he became the first person to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Wilhelm
Rontgen is known as the father of radiology. When he was just three years old
his family shifted to Holland.  He was expelled from school when one of
his teachers siezed from him a caricature thar had been sketched by someone
else.

According to
Nobel.prize.org, “Rontgen
obtained his undergraduate degree from ETH Zurich University and completed his
doctorate in physics from the University of Zurich. After his studies, Wilhelm
Rontgen worked at universities in Strasbourg, Giessen, and Wurzburg, where he
did his research for the Nobel Prize. In 1900, Rontgen moved to the University
of Munich, where he lived for the rest of his life, despite plans to move to
the US. Wilhelm Rontgen married Bertha Ludwig in 1872”.

moment, look back at their hard work and celebrate the contributions of
radiology in the active care of patients,” the ESR said in a statement.

World
Radiography Day: Significance

The aim of
World Radiography Day is to raise awareness about the way radiology contributes
to the treatment of patients and to understand the role it plays in the healthcare
system.  

World
Radiography Day: History

The day is
celebrated across the world by various national radiographers’ associations and
societies. Since 2007, the day has been celebrated by the International Society
of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists.

In India,
the Radiographers Association of Madhya Pradesh started celebrating the day in
1996. Shivakant Vajpai, secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Radiographers
Association, has set the theme of World Radiography Day.

The theme
is, Interventional Radiology–Active care for the patient.
