Two pilots, including a trainee, died in a helicopter crash in Nalgonda, Telangana, on Saturday. The crash occurred in the village of Thungathurthi, close to the Nagarjuna Sagar dam. 

Several locals gathered on the crash site after hearing the sound of the collision. A team of medical professionals and police officials also arrived at the spot. The ravaged chopper is presumed to have been on a training sortie prior to the crash.  

The Cessna-152 two-seater aircraft belonged to a private aviation academy based in Hyderabad. According to media reports, the helicopter took off from Macherla of the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and collided with an electric pole mid-flight. Thick black plumes of smoke engulfed the crash site. 

According to Hindustan Times, the crash took place at 10.50 am. The Superintendent of Nalgonda confirmed the cause of the crash. The dead pilot has been identified as Mahima, a woman from Tamil Nadu.
