One of the most influential figures in North Carolina, House Speaker Tim Moore, is accused in a new lawsuit with having a sexual relationship with a worker for the state.

In a lawsuit filed on Sunday, Scott Lassiter, an assistant principal in Wake County and former candidate for the state House, claims that his wife, Jamie Lassiter, had a three-year extramarital relationship with the speaker that “destroyed” their marriage.

Moore is accused of using his authority to prevent Jamie Lassiter, the executive director of the North Carolina Conference of Clerks of Superior Court, from leaving the relationship, according to Scott Lassiter.

In separate statements released on Sunday, Moore and Jamie Lassiter both denied the claims.

“This is a baseless lawsuit from a troubled individual,” Moore told Axios through a spokesperson Sunday night. “We will vigorously defend this action and pursue all available legal remedies.”

Jamie Lassiter told Axios through an attorney that she and Scott have been separated “for years,” contradicting Scott’s claim in the lawsuit that they separated in January 2023.

“Our marriage was a nightmare, and since I left him it has gotten worse,” Jamie said. “We are reaching the end of our divorce process and this is how he’s lashing out.”

According to Scott’s 20-page lawsuit, Moore “aggressively pursued a sexual relationship with Mrs. Lassiter, even though he knew that she was married,” in 2019. Moore and Lassiter were married in 2013 and had a love relationship up until that point, according to Scott.

Scott Lassiter claims that he put Jamie under surveillance on December 21, 2022 after learning of the alleged affair; this validated his suspicions that she and Moore were having an affair, the lawsuit claims.
