E-commerce giant Amazon has changed its logo for the smartphone app in the wake of critics pointing out its similarity with Adolf Hitler.

The company changed the logo in January, replacing the erstwhile shopping cart symbol with one depicting a brown box with a jagged piece of tape above the signature smile-shaped arrow. 

The symbol caught the eye of users for its resemblance with the Führer’s iconic toothbrush moustache. 

“amazon had to change their logo cause people thought it looked like hitler,” a user said on Twitter.

“Amazon’s new app logo be lookin like they’re the THIRD most downloaded in the ‘Reich’ section,” another said. 

Amazon slightly changed the logo, which now looks like a folded piece of tape on the box, to make it look a little less like the infamous dictator.  

However, users have found new comparisons to make with the redesigned logo.

“i know the new amazon app icon is supposed to represent their packages but every time i see it i just see Aang from Avatar smiling at me,” a Twitter user said, referring to the protagonist from the American cartoon show Avatar: The Last Airbender.

“Till this exact moment I thought the Amazon icon was Aang,” another said.

Amazon “is always exploring new ways to delight our customers” the company said. 

“We designed the new icon to spark anticipation, excitement, and joy when customers start their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their door step,” an Amazon spokesperson told the New York Post.
