According to a report, the man who fell from a New York City tower on Friday was named Gustavo Arnal, an executive vice president and the chief financial officer of Bed Bath & Beyond.

According to the New York Post, which initially reported the incident, 52-year-old Arnal jumped from the Jenga Tower, a skyscraper in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighbourhood.

Arnal’s passing on Friday was announced by Bed Bath & Beyond in a news statement on Sunday.

According to a written statement by Bed Bath & Beyond Inc.’s independent board chair Harriet Edelman, “I wish to extend our sincerest condolences to Gustavo’s family. Gustavo will be remembered for all he worked with for his leadership, talent, and stewardship of our Company.”

Arnal’s wife, Alexandra Cadenas-Arnal, allegedly saw him leap off the balcony, according to a source, CNN reported, adding that no suicide note was discovered. The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office was looking into the fatality, according to the New York Police Department.

Arnal was one of the business executives who discussed the company’s recovery strategy on Wednesday. A 20% job reduction was part of the plan for supply-chain and corporate operations. About 150 of the company’s lower-producing outlets will be closed.

In May 2020, during the COVID-19 epidemic, he started working at the shop. He formerly worked with Procter & Gamble Co., Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., and Avon Products Inc.

Calculations made by Reuters based on SEC filings revealed that Arnal sold 55,013 shares of the company in August. His net worth at the time of his death is not known.

According to the website of the business, Arnal holds a master’s degree in finance from the Universidad Metropolitana and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Universidad Simon Bolivar.

Prior to joining Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., he was a successful business turnaround leader for Avon, a well-known direct-selling beauty brand.

Arnal was the CFO of Walgreens Boots Alliance’s international divisions and global functions prior to joining Avon. According to the newsroom of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., he was a leader with experience leading teams across the US, EMEA, APAC, and LATAM.

Additionally, he has held key roles at Procter & Gamble in the past, including CFO of India, the Middle East, and Africa, CFO of Global Fabric and Home Care, and CFO of Global Personal Beauty.
