Harlan Crow, a Texas real estate developer who was the subject of a recent ProPublica investigation, has come under fire for his uncomfortable close relationship with a Supreme Court justice and his habit of showing Nazi paraphernalia.

The ProPublica investigation of Harlan Crow’s decades-long relations to Clarence Thomas. Crow hosted Thomas and his wife aboard his superyacht, at his private resorts, and on private jet trips.

The report renewed Crow’s interest in one of his hobbies of collecting and displaying Nazi Germany artifacts, including objects directly linked to Adolf Hitler.

Ben Shapiro, attorney, businessman, and author, defended Crow’s Hitler artifacts and dictator statues.

“I mean, that seems like a reason you might own this stuff is to remember the things that you hate,” he said.

Shapiro faced outrage on social media for defending Crow. Crow’s collection was at least distasteful to many on social media. Here’s how users reacted:

“Ben Shapiro defending the Nazi shrine is all the proof you need that the partisan hackery on the right is truly limitless,” a user said.

“Ben Shapiro is now defending Harlan Crow collecting Hitler memorabilia, by saying “I mean that seems like a reason to own this stuff — to remember the things you hate.” No one needs a reminder of what a terrible human being Adolf Hitler was unless maybe you are Ben Shapiro,” another user said on Twitter.

According to a Washington, Crow’s collection includes a signed copy of Mein Kampf and paintings made by Hitler, who was a struggling artist in Vienna before coming to power in Germany. The paintings were reportedly displayed at his home with no context.
