Blue Springs is a city located in Jackson County, Missouri. The state has some of the weakest gun laws in the country since Missouri does not require background checks on unlicensed gun sales. State laws also allow people to carry loaded and hidden firearms in public without the need for a permit or safety training. Missouri also allows domestic abusers to possess firearms.

One Twitter user ranted against the state’s condition last week, saying “18 year old can buy an AR 15, but middle school kids in Blue Springs can’t have back packs. This is what happens when you let the NRA MASS SHOOTING ORGANIZATION write your laws. MO GOP SUCKKKS”.

Last month, there was an officer-involved shooting near the Blue Springs Walmart. Local authorities were assisting Cass County sheriff’s deputies in trying to take two individuals into custody.

In June 2022, a month after the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, there was a threat made by a former Blue Springs High School student that prompted cancellations and postponements of several schools in the district. Blue Springs PD arrested the 19-year-old, who’d put up the message of the mass shooting on Snapchat, the social media platform.
