The lockdown at Charlottesville High School has been lifted, authorities tweeted. Police have given an all-clear after they investigated the report of an injured student. 

“CHS Families: The lockdown has been lifted. Police found no students injured and identified no threat. They have given an all-clear for normal activities to resume. We know that this has been a very stressful experience. Thank you for your understanding. More info to come”, they said. 

Normal activities have resumed. 

Charlottesville Police Department had arrived at the scene after receiving news that a student had been hurt.  The school remained on lockdown while cops investigated.

“CHS Families: All students are safe. A call came in to the CPD indicating that a student had been hurt at the high school, but the school is unaware of any risk or any incident. Even so, we have gone into lockdown to allow the police to investigate and clear the building”, school authorities said. 

Fox3Now reported there was an active shooter situation, but this has remained unsubstantiated. 

Charlottesville is a city in Virginia, a state with relatively lax gun laws, allowing open carry for anyone with a permit. While the situation at CHS was not shooting-related, the city sees its share of gun violence

On September 18, cops investigated a shooting reported in the area of 9th Street NW, but city officers reported finding only bullet casings along Hardy Drive. No injuries were reported, and authorities requested the public to contact them with relevant information. 

A few days ago, on September 14, cops responded to reports of shots fired in the area of East Market Street. Officers were called to the 300 block around 6:40 PM, but there were no reports of injuries or property damage. The Investigations Unit took over the case to conduct the necessary follow-up.
