Police in Iowa scaled rooftops for a Special Olympics in Iowa and Illinois. The “Cop on a Rooftop” fundraiser is in its seventh year. Eastern Iowa is home to several participating venues. The activity takes place on Friday, August 19 from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Donors received a coupon for a free donut. If a donation had been made of at least $10, a coupon for a free medium coffee was given back. A commemorative travel mug was also included with donations of $20 or more.

Donations assist in providing support for the 14,664 athletes, according to Special Olympics Iowa. Donations help the 26,395 athletes in Illinois. The Law Enforcement Torch Run, which has earned more than $59 million for the Special Olympics since 1986, includes The Cop on a Rooftop as one of its events.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest annual fundraising effort for Special Olympics Illinois. The Torch Run aims to support Special Olympics Illinois competitors by raising funds and bringing attention to them.
Every year, members of the state’s law enforcement agencies and our federal allies participate in an intrastate relay known as the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Nearly 1,500 miles and 23 different legs (routes) later, the Flame of Hope arrives at its final destination—the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games in Normal—carried by about 3,000 police officers.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run, in addition to ‘Cop on a rooftop’ also organises a number of annual fundraising activities, such as ‘Polar Plunges’, ‘Dunkin’ Coffee for Champions’, ‘Tip-A-Cop activities’, ‘Truck Convoys’, and ‘Plane Pull activities’. More than 59 million dollars have been raised since 1986 through the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which has also boosted public awareness of Special Olympics Illinois competitors and their achievements.
