The Denver Broncos have made a significant roster move by deciding to release defensive end Randy Gregory. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter broke the news, highlighting the team’s desire to prioritize their emerging defensive talent, which leaves Gregory without a spot on the roster.

In 2022, the Broncos signed the 30-year-old defensive end to a substantial five-year contract. Despite the Dallas Cowboys’ attempts to retain him, contract negotiations fell through, leading Gregory to sign with the Broncos.

Gregory had a noteworthy start to the season, starting three out of the first four games, accumulating nine combined tackles, one sack, and one pass deflection. Upon his release, he will not be subjected to the waiver wire, making him an appealing target for teams in need of a defensive boost.

Randy Gregory’s contract details reveal that while the Broncos could potentially trade him, it would come at a significant cost. His five-year deal is worth $70 million, including $14 million in guaranteed money, which constitutes his base salary for 2023. Any team interested in acquiring him via trade would need to shoulder the remainder of his 2023 salary, as well as the substantial contract for the following three seasons.

As Gregory is set to become a free agent, several NFL teams have expressed interest in securing his services. Here are three potential landing spots for the star defensive end:

  • Los Angeles Rams

Among the top landing spots, the Los Angeles Rams stand out as a potential destination, given their recent struggles with their current edge rushers. However, their limited salary cap space may pose a challenge.

  • Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs, despite a strong start to the season, are still in need of defensive reinforcements, particularly in the edge rusher department. Adding Gregory’s experience could benefit their defense, although their off-season draft pick, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, is in the mix.

  • Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have also faced defensive challenges due to injuries, making Gregory an attractive option for depth. With some cap space available, the Ravens could make a move to bolster their pass-rushing capabilities and provide a spark to their defense.
