The Grammy award ceremony is finally happening after a three-month delay due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The event will be held at MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas on April 3.

The first awards will be given out at 12:30 PM local time on Sunday, a thrombosis-inducing eight hours until the album of the year award is given out at 8:30 PM local time (04:30 in the UK).

There are 70 categories in total, with nominations ranging from Lady Gaga to Barack Obama.

Unlike last year’s smaller event, which had both live and pre-recorded performances, the 2022 ceremony will feature Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Carrie Underwood, Silk Sonic, and Olivia Rodrigo performing at the MGM Grand Arena.

Here are some facts about Grammys 2022:

1. This year 22,000 songs were submitted to take into consideration, which led to shortlisting of eight to 10 nominees for the first time in the main categories.

“We’re living in a time of extraordinary growth in music,” said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason, Jr. “Over 60,000 songs a day are being released. With so much more music available. There’s a lot more excellence to recognize and celebrate.”

2. Olivia Rodrigo, a Disney actress turned pop sensation, has been nominated in all of the top four categories. If the 19-year-old artist takes home all four awards then she will be the 3rd artist in history to do so after Christopher Cross and Billie Eilish.

Grammys is also planning to honor Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins after his untimely death.

“We will honor his memory in some way,” CBS executive vice president of music Jack Sussman told Variety magazine. “We want to figure out what is the right thing to do that is respectful to everyone involved. We’re patient. We’ll be planning right up until the very end.”

The Recording Academy, on the other hand, regularly releases real-time clips of the winners on its YouTube channel.
