Charles Barkley and Gayle King are teaming up to host a new show together later this year. They made the official announcement on Sunday during TNT’s pregame coverage. Gayle came on the set with Barkley and they discuss the details of their new venture together, titled King Charles. The weekly CNN primetime show set to air on Wednesday sees them both taking politics and timely topics.

The live show is set to launch this fall and runs through 2024. It is a central feature of CNN chief Chris Licht’s efforts to revive the network’s primetime schedule. It 9 pm ET hour has been missing a permanent host since Chris Cuomo was sacked in December 2021. King and Barkley will fill one night of the week.

King Charles will be an hour-long show. King will continue to keep her duties for CBS in the mornings and Barkley will continue to work for Turner Sports.

For the 9 pm slot, Litch has tried several formats, from panel discussions to long-form interviews including Jake Tapper’s sit-down with Bill Maher.

“I want the show to be nonpolitical,” said Barkley, though he stated that the show would touch on politics.

“You know (Gayle King) is going to be a straight shooter. I’m going to be a straight shooter. I know she’s going to be fair and honest and you know I’m going to do the same thing,” he added.

King and Barkley said the topics covered on the show will range from gun control to topics like food and pop culture.

It will also feature celebrities at the center of the week’s news. Licht said the show will deliver culturally relevant programming and unique perspectives. More information on the show’s focus will be released in the upcoming months, he added.
