The Germantown High School in Tennessee was placed under lockdown on Tuesday morning after, as Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) confirmed, a verbal threat was made. However, there are no reports of a shooting

FOX13 reported that they were called by parents of the Germantown High School students, who said that the school was on lockdown. On contacting the Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), the news outlet found that a threat was made against the school via a telephone call received by Germantown Police Dispatch.

A spokesperson of the MSCS, in a statement, said that no immediate threats have been located near the premises. The credibility of the call is being examined and the incident is under investigation. 

An MSCS spokesperson released a statement:

Officers are on scene at Germantown High School investigating a threat made against the school via a telephone call received by Germantown Police Dispatch. At this time the school is on lockdown. There have been no immediate threats located at the school. We are working with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and GHS Staff to determine the credibility of this call. We will maintain a significant presence at the school as we investigate this incident.

Meanwhile, the Police and Security Services Department at Brownsville Independent School District responded to a call for help at Porter High School around 9 a.m.

According to BISD, school officers were dispatched to the school to assist when a vehicle attempted to flee recklessly while students and faculty were present. The officer discharged his weapon at the vehicle as it approached him, fearing for the safety of the staff and students.

The vehicle owner was arrested after attempting to leave the premises in a dangerous manner while children and employees were present. An on-duty Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) police officer fired shots at the car but did not strike anyone. According to authorities, all students and staff are safe. According to a press release from the school district, around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, BISD police officers responded to reports of suspicious behaviour at the high school. They were looking for the vehicle that was driving dangerously while children and employees were present.
