Police have arrested the vehicle owner who attempted to leave premises in a dangerous manner while children and employees were there. An on-duty Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) police officer had fired shots at the car and reportedly did not hit anyone with his bullets.

Students and staff are all safe, authorities said. 

The school district, in a press release, said that around 9 AM on Tuesday, BISD police officers responded to reports of suspicious behavior at the high school.

They, as per the release, were after the vehicle that drove dangerously while children and employees were on premises.

“The officer fired his pistol at the car as it approached him out of concern for the safety of the other people in the building, including the faculty and the pupils.” According to the announcement, the vehicle managed to get away from the site.

“In addition, there is no lockdown and activity at Perkins Middle School,” the release added. 

Meanwhile, The Germantown High School in Tennessee was placed under lockdown on Tuesday morning after, as Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) confirmed, a verbal threat was made. However, there are no reports of shooting.

A spokesperson of the MSCS, in a statement, said that no immediate threats have been located near the premises. The credibility of the call is being examined and the incident is under investigation.

“Officers are on scene at Germantown High School investigating a threat made against the school via a telephone call received by Germantown Police Dispatch. At this time the school is on lockdown. There have been no immediate threats located at the school. We are working with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and GHS Staff to determine the credibility of this call. We will maintain a significant presence at the school as we investigate this incident,” the spokesperson said.
