Social media users were confused after the hashtag ‘RIP Bernie’ started trending. Several wondered if the Senator from Vermont is dead.

No, Sanders is not dead. While it is difficult tracking the origin of the trend, we can confirm that all the reports are false.

Many Twitter users have been wondering if Bernie Sanders is okay.

“Rip Bernie trending and searching to see if Bernie Sanders is okay,” a social media user said.

“Bernie Sanders is not dead. Because I know some of you must be freaking out when you saw “RIP Bernie” trending,” another one informed.

Sanders in fact was in the news recently when he called for an increase in minimum wage. The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 per hour for nearly 14 years.

He called an inflation-prompted number – $17 per hour, a $2 increase from the $15. Sanders said that the change would help the incomes of nearly 35 million Americans who currently earn less than $17 per hour.

“In the year 2023, in the richest country in the history of the world, nobody should be forced to work for starvation wages,” Sanders said.

“Nobody in this country can survive on $7.25 an hour,” the Vermont politician added.

Bernie Sanders, earlier this month, said that he would not run for the 2024 Presidential election and instead endorse for President Joe Biden’s reelection.

“The last thing this country needs is a Donald Trump or some other right-wing demagogue who is going to try to undermine American democracy or take away a woman’s right to choose, or not address the crisis of gun violence, or racism, sexism or homophobia,” Sanders said in an interview with The Associated Press. “So, I’m in to do what I can to make sure that the president is reelected.”
