The shooting took place in a hotel room on the eighth floor. Police suspect one person was shot and at least two others were injured in the shooting.
Police said it was an active investigation and asked people to avoid the area. The suspect was not in custody as of 10 pm on Thursday.
“We are investigating a shooting in a hotel room at the Mirage,” Metro police tweeted shortly after 10 pm.
“One person has been pronounced deceased. This is an active investigation and we will provide more information as it becomes available. Please avoid the area.”
Meanwhile, videos shares on social media showed security blocking the entrances to the property.
“Won’t let anyone out…all exits closed with lots of cops. Security says a “medical emergency” but something isn’t adding up,” one of the guests wrote on social media.
“Elevators going to floors 2-8 of the building have been blocked off by security and guests are not being allowed to enter the eighth floor.”
Eileen De La Cruz, another at the hotel, told Insider that she saw “security running in the casino” at around 8 pm.
“Than we tried to walk to the strip and they wouldn’t let us out. We asked what was going on they said nothing. There was never any announcements asking us to stay in our rooms or anything,” she told outlet, adding that moments later, she saw a stretcher being brought in.
The hotel was temporary placed on lockdown.
