A man armed with a knife and wearing a Plexiglas shield and claiming that he had a bomb in his van, was shot outscourtide a federal building in Philadelphia, according to sources with knowledge of the incident.

FOX 29’s Steve Keeley tweeted several updates about the incident, adding that law enforcement is investigating the shooting on the 700 block of Arch Street outside of the federal court building and a large police presence was seen.”

Keely tweeted: “Law Enforcement sources tell FOX29 News man armed with a knife was shot by security staff at the U.S. Federal Court Building at 7th and Market Streets.”

“Law Enforcement sources tell FOX29 News man with knife, plexiglass shield strapped to him and claimed he had bomb in his van. No bomb found in his van. Man was shot by ‘Professional armed security’ hired for the U.S. Courthouse Bldg,” Keeley updated in a following tweet.

Soon after, he posted the update: “Man was shot twice in the abdomen, twice in the arm & twice in the back. Male was transported to Jefferson by medic & listed critical. Knife recovered, best cleared (deemed harmless) by Bomb Squad. Male in custody at hospital.” 

Reports said that the man was shot multiple times throughout his body by armed security hired by the federal building. After the investigation, the police did not find a bomb.

The suspect was transported to Jefferson Hospital. He was said to be in critical condition. The identity of the man has not been revealed. No additional details were released by federal law enforcement authorities.
