PM Narendra Modi on Saturday arrived in the Serum Institute of India situated in Pune for the review of COVID-19 vaccine development, news agency ANI tweeted.

According to news agency PTI, The visit is part of Modi’s three-city visit ton review the process of vaccine development in India.

Landing in Pune airport at around 4:30 PM from Hyderabad, Modi proceeded SII via helicopter.

Serum Institute of India has partnered with Oxford University and AstraZeneca in order to develop Covishield, which has shown 70% efficacy in interim analysis.

Earlier on Saturday, the Prime Minister visited Bharat Biotech’s facility in Hyderabad in order to review the development of Covaxin, an indigenous coronavirus vaccine candidate.

The vaccine in question is currently going through third phase trials.
