Police say a man suspected of using a handgun in a series of shootings in Northern California that left six men dead and one woman injured was arrested early on Saturday as he drove through Stockton. He might have wanted to find additional victims.

The suspect was detained in a car at around two in the morning in the Central Valley city, where five of the shootings took place, according to Police Chief Stanley McFadden, who spoke at a news conference. Investigators had been keeping a watch on the man after receiving indications.

Wesley Brownlee, a 43-year-old resident of Stockton, allegedly “was out hunting” while carrying a gun, dressing entirely in black, and wearing a mask over his neck.

McFadden continued, “We are sure we stopped another killing.”

In order to examine whether the homicides might be connected to two murders that occurred in the Rogers Park neighbourhood of Chicago in 2018 local investigators also collaborated with Chicago police. Authorities claimed that a man in black with a unique gait was visible in videos of the accused.

On Friday, Chicago police stated that there didn’t seem to be any connection.

Police in Stockton requested the public to pay attention to the man’s walk after releasing video surveillance footage of the suspect last week. He walked with his hands in his pockets and had an unsteady gait.

He also had clothing that resembles that of the Rogers Park gunman.

But on Friday, the police in Chicago and Stockton said there was no connection.
