An article titled ‘Killer Whales Are Not Our Friends’ published by The Atlantic is drawing frowns on social media from animal lovers.

The article, written by Jacob Stern starts off by saying, “In recent months, orcas in the waters off the Iberian Peninsula have taken to ramming boats. The animals have already sunk three this year and damaged several more… Scientists have documented hundreds of orca-boat incidents off the Spanish-Portuguese coast since 2020, but news coverage of these attacks is blowing up right now, thanks in part to a creative new theory about why they’re happening: cetacean vengeance.”

Needless to say, the piece did not sit well with environmentalists and animal lovers who choose not to discriminate when it comes to any type of creature. Here are a few reactions:

“Here we have the Atlantic, a media source that takes itself very seriously, declaring that Orcas, innocent animals, are the enemy. This is what passes for journalism now. They could talk about child hunger. They could talk about income inequality. But no – it’s the Orcas,” a social media user wrote.

One of the users also dug up Jacob Stern’s backstory, which showed that he graduated from Branford College in 2019. This led another to remark, “Rightfully dunk on his Carnival Barker cosplay, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that I shouldn’t have to read the opinions of someone who graduated college in 2019 in The Atlantic.”
