At least one person was killed in a horrific accident on Interstate-30 in Arkansas affecting eight semis and three passenger automobiles.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation reports that numerous drivers have been hurt, but does not specify how many or the severity of their injuries.

The eastbound lanes of I-30 are still stopped and backed up for miles as they approach the wreckage. Westbound traffic is going slowly, and traffic is being directed off the roadway.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation is offering food and drink to stranded drivers on the road, and authorities are moving traffic around to clear the situation.

The accident happened on a section of highway in Hot Springs County near Malvern on Wednesday afternoon.

It is still unknown what caused the accident.

According to an Arkansas Department of Transportation spokesman, it will be a long time until the highway traffic clears.

Photos taken at the site show shredded semis piled on top of each other and dispersed across the roadway, while a ball of fire consumes them and spreads across the median.
