The dark bodycam video of 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon starting gunfire at the Old National Bank in Kentucky, US, using a weapon he purchased from a nearby dealership, has been made public by the Louisville Metro Police Department. Sturgeon, who is also from Kentucky allegedly bought the automatic gun he used in the shooting just six days before to the assault.

On Tuesday, representatives from the Louisville Metro Police Department released the video and gave an update on the incident during a press conference.

In the footage, as the cops approach the location, the suspect starts firing shots at their patrol car. The police then enter the bank, where the suspect opens fire on them before being shot and killed.

At around 8:30 a.m., authorities received a request from the scene of the gunshot, and they arrived at the bank at 8:41 a.m. Sturgeon was killed when the officers opened fire at 8:44 a.m. Sturgeon broadcasted the shooting live on Instagram, which has subsequently removed the video.

At the press conference on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey of the Louisville Metro Police Department stated that Sturgeon had set up camp behind many glass doors to wait for the arriving cops. “He could see out where no one could see in,” Humphrey said.

Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey praised the officers’ and the first responders’ bravery. “But I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that, you know, the most heroic things at the peak of our career that we do are shrouded in other people’s tragedies,” Humphrey said.

In addition to shooting at the responding officers, the suicidal shooter also badly wounded Nickolas Wilt, who was still battling for his life hours later following emergency brain surgery.

Tommy Elliott, a close friend of Governor Andy Beshear, was among the victims, along with Joshua Barrick, 40, Deana Eckert, 57, Jim Tutt, 64, and Juliana Farmer, 45. Wilt and another officer also had minor wounds, making a total of eight people injured.
