Sending fans into a frenzy, Marvel Cinematic Universe on Thursday released the trailer of their new mind-boggling animated series “What If…?”, which is set to make its debut on Disney Plus on August 11th.

The premise of the 10-episode show is as bewildering as the trailer. Living up to its alternate universe billing, in the new series, MCU deals with alternate takes on dozens of characters and the ample amount of quirky possibilities that it possesses.

What if Peggy Carter was chosen to get the Super Soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers? What if Yondu kidnapped T’Challa instead of Peter Quill when he came to Earth? Or if Killmonger had come to the aid of Tony Stark in Afghanistan? These are a few of the many questions the show will play on.

Meanwhile, this is also the first animated property in the MCU — a factor that makes it easier to revisit the altered storylines without, say, having to remake the entirety of “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2021.

Right now, alternate takes on popular characters seem to be selling like hotcakes at MCU, with “Loki” already featuring a slew of different versions of the villain from across the timeline. And “What If…?” is also slated to play on those lines.

However, despite being part of the alternate universe, the show will introduce the character of Uatu the Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright) to the franchise as the show’s narrator.

After the success of “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and with “Loki” wrapping up on July 14, the show comes at a perfect time for Marvel fans, who will have a lot more to look forward in the coming months.

The new series has been directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley featuring as the head writer.

“What If…?” also features the final Marvel performance of the late Chadwick Boseman, who played Black Panther in the MCU. The show is confirmed for a second season with ten episodes, as Marvel chief Kevin Feige had earlier said.
