A brawl that erupted on the Alabama riverfront on Saturday (August 5) has been dubbed the “Montgomery Mollywop,” and many believe it will go down in history.
At around 7 p.m., police went to the altercation on the 200 block of Coosa Street, and videos of the brawl have gone viral on social media, showing people throwing punches on the dock.
The brawl is thought to have started after a disagreement over where some boats should be docked, prompting many to physically assault a dock worker.
A viral video shows a white man punching a black man, who appears to be a crew member, before several others join in the brawl.

What is ‘Montgomery Mollywop’?
People on Twitter are calling the altercation the “Montgomery Mollywop,” which is a slang phrase for beating up and punching someone hard.
A Molly Wop is defined as “to swing one’s arm back so far that it almost rips out of its socket and then proceed to completely knock out their face” by Urban Dictionary.
The alliteration gives the term a nice ring, despite the serious conflict isn’t something to laugh about.

“Last night, the Montgomery Police Department acted swiftly to detain several reckless individuals for attacking a man who was doing his job,” stated Montgomery’s Mayor in a statement.
“Warrants have been issued, and justice will be done.” “This was an unfortunate incident that should never have happened,” he concluded.
“As our police department investigates these heinous actions, we must not become de-sensitised to any form of violence in our community.”
Some are even calling it the “Battle of Montgomery 2023,” saying that the massive clash will be remembered as a great “historic event.”
During the First English Civil War (1642-1646), the legendary fight was fought to obtain possession of the fortress of Montgomery, which controlled access to mid-Wales.
People are also mentioning the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a political and social protest campaign against racial segregation on public transportation that took place from 1955 to 1966.
“The Montgomery Mollywop is a historic event in our country,” one individual wrote.
“Let this go down in history as The Montgomery Mollywop of 2023,” remarked another.
“We’re literally going to be discussing the Montgomery Mollywop for years to come,” a third individual remarked.
