Who is Aderrien Murry?

On May 20, 2023, an officer from the Indianola Police Department shot Aderrien Murry in the chest while the officer was attending to a domestic disturbance call at the child’s residence.

Aderrien was born in 2012. He is 11- years- old.

According to his mother Nakala Murry and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the family wants the officer fired and charged with the incident.

Murry claimed that around 4 a.m., the father of a different child arrived to her house “irate.”

Murry requested Aderrien to contact the police because he was worried about her security. According to Murry, the responding officer “had his gun drawn at the front door and asked those inside the home to come outside.” Murry claimed that her kid was shot as he turned a bend into a hallway.

After the police urged individuals inside the house to come outside, the shooting took place “one to two minutes” later, according to Murry.

After suffering injuries from the shooting, including a collapsed lung, broken ribs, and a lacerated liver, the boy was given a chest tube and put on a ventilator at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, according to his mother. On Wednesday, he was discharged from the hospital. The hospital has been contacted by CNN.

Murry’s daughter and Murry’s 2-year-old nephew were among the other two kids there when the shooting occurred, according to her.

According to CNN, Carlos Moore, the family attorney for Murry, claimed that a police body camera had filmed the incident.

The attorney said that “an ongoing investigation” prevented him from getting the body camera footage.

The incident’s body camera video has not been made available to the general public.
Moore added that he was informed that the event was captured on film by a nearby petrol station.

The Indianola Police Department told CNN that the police chief was not available but did confirm that the officer who was shot was called Greg Capers. However, they did not release any other information on the shooting.

Following her son’s shooting, Murry revealed she put her hand on the wound to provide pressure while he “sang gospel songs and prayed while bleeding out.” She claimed that the cop attempted to assist with first aid and put his hand on top of hers in an effort to halt Aderrien’s bleeding.

Medical personnel were “very attentive,” she claimed, until an ambulance arrived.

Moore remarked that Aderrien “was inches away from losing his life.” “For a cop to act in this way and get away with it is not acceptable. The mother requested that Aderrien report the father of her daughter to the authorities. As instructed by the police, he left his room, and he was shot.

Murry said police told her that her daughter’s father was arrested later that day but freed because she had not made a police report against him.

“When was I going to find the time?” “I was in the hospital with my son,” she stated in response to the news of the man’s release.

Murry said four days after the killing that “no one came to the hospital from the police station” and that she had not spoken to any police detectives about the incident, as per CNN.

“I’m just happy my son is alive,” she said while sobbing.

According to CNN, Moore is enraged that Capers is still employed by the Indianola Police Department.

“We believe that the city and the officer should be held accountable for the damages they have caused to Aderrien Murray,” the attorney added.

Moore has stated that they would stage a sit-in protest at Indianola City Hall on Thursday morning.
