California judge Jeff Ferguson has been arrested after his wife was murdered in a Anaheim Hills home on Thursday.

When authorities reported to Orange County, in Anaheim Hills, California at 8 p.m. they found Sheryl Ferguson, age 65, with at least one gun shot wound. She was later pronounced dead at the scene. The 72-year-old judge was taken into custody.

The Anaheim police sergeant told the news outlet: “Upon officer’s arrival, they located one deceased victim and ultimately detained one suspect that suspect was ultimately arrested and our homicide detectives are on scene investigating the incident now.”

The home where the shooting took place reportedly belong to Ferguson and his wife. Los Angeles Times reported that they had spoken to two sources who said a child of the judge and his wife were at the home at the time when the shooting took place.

Investigators then sought search warrants to gather evidence in the home after they received reports of a gunshot from the area. Although the police initially did not confirm who the suspect or the victim were, they later released a booking photo confirming Ferguson had been arrested.

Who is Jeff Ferguson?

Judge Jeff Ferguson has served in the Orange County Superior Court since 2015. Previously, he used to serve with the Orange County district attorney’s office on the Major Narcotics Enforcement Team. He worked there for 30 years.

He enjoys a successful career and has been named prosecutor of the year four times by the Orange County Narcotics Officers Association.

On Thursday Ferguson was arrested and booked into the Anaheim Police Department’s Detention Facility on a $1 million bail. 

Detectives are yet to release any additional details about the case. Investigation is ongoing.
