A Las Vegas teenager who brutally attacked his teacher by raping, strangling, and then attempting to sever her wrists has been sentenced to up to 40 years in prison.

At his sentencing on Wednesday, Jonathan Martinez-Garcia, 17, grinned as the court heard in horrifying detail how he ambushed the instructor at El Dorado High School in April 2022 by asking if he could chat about his grades after class.

Martinez-Garcia tried to strangle her with a “rope or string” after waiting until she turned around. The young lady was then rendered unconscious when he violently banged her head on a table.

Her pants and underwear were down when the victim awoke. Martinez-Garcia poured something on her and threatened to light her ablaze before pushing a bookshelf onto her and sitting on it.

The victim, who gave the judge only her first name, Sade, claimed that during the terrifying incident that left her covered in bruises, she thought she was going to die. Sade stated during the sentence hearing that she had both a mental and physical “imprisonment.”
