Marianne Williamson, spiritual advisor, and bestselling self-help author is making a second consecutive run for the White House and taking aim at President Joe Biden. Willaimson confirmed in an interview with Medill News Service Thursday that she will run again for the Democratic Party nomination for president in 2024.

“I wouldn’t be running for president if I didn’t believe I could contribute to harnessing the collective sensibility that I feel is our greatest hope at this time,” Williamson said.

Who is Marianne Williamson?

Marianne Williamson is an author, spiritual leader, and political activist. She has written 14 books, four of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers.

She is also the founder of Project Angel Food, a non-profit that has delivered more than 14 million meals to ill and dying homebound patients since 1989. The group was formed to help people suffering from the ravages of HIV-AIDS.

Williamson has also worked throughout her career on poverty, anti-hunger, and racial reconciliation issues. In 2014, she unsuccessfully contested as an independent representing California’s 33rd congressional district in the US House of Representatives.

She announced her campaign for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election on January 9, 2019. On January 10, 2020, she suspended her campaign. She endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders for the White House after suspending her campaign.

Marianne Williamson was born on July 8, 1952, in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of three children of Samuel Williamson and Sophie Ann Kaplan. Samuel was a World War 2 veteran and immigration lawyer, while Sophie was a homemaker and community volunteer.

She attended Houston ISD’s Bellaire High School. After graduating, she studied theatre and philosophy for two years at Pomona College in Claremont, California. In 1973, she dropped out of college and lived a nomadic existence during what she calls her waster decade.

In 1979, Williamson was briefly married to a Houston businessman. She said the marriage lasted for a minute and a half. She gave birth to her daughter India Emmaline in 1990. Williamson is the first prominent Democrat to confirm a 2024 presidential run.
