Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign fired a staff member as part of its most recent downsizing initiative this weekend. The staff member had reposted an online video that morphed the candidate’s face with Nazi imagery.

Nate Hochman, a campaign staff member, tweeted the video over the weekend before deleting the post, according to a screenshot provided to NBC News. Hochman, a member of the communications team, is regarded by some as a right-leaning thinker who has published work in The New York Times, National Review, and other publications.

“Nate Hochman is no longer with the campaign. And we will not be commenting on him further,” a DeSantis campaign official told the press.

The brief video, which was allegedly initially shared by the Ron DeSantis Fancams Twitter account, depicts a “doomer” who appears unhappy as he reads news articles about issues like Donald Trump’s inactivity on immigration, his promotion of the Covid-19 vaccine, and his support for the LGBTQ community.

The doomer is pleased when DeSantis then enters. A weird montage, that is similar to another DeSantis campaign advertisement from earlier this month, features images of the Florida governor intercut with shots of crocodiles, rockets, and ladies wearing bathing suits.

The video clip ended with a shot of DeSantis in front of a sonnenrad, a Nazi emblem that fascist supporters have continued to use as their symbol of unity in modern times.

Within months after its launch, the DeSantis campaign fired more than 40% of its original personnel because of worries about its high staffing levels and spending. Since the campaign’s launch in late May, 38 employees have been let go, including at least 26 on Tuesday.
