Yoni Barrios, the suspect in the stabbing incident that killed two and injured six at a casino in the Las Vegas strip on Thursday, was arrested by the police after a brief chase along with a “large, long-bladed knife” believed to be the murder weapon.

Barrios appeared in court on Friday and has been placed in police custody without bail, CNN reported. He is scheduled to defend the charges against him during his arraignment on Tuesday.

Who is Yoni Barrios?

Yoni Barrios is a 32-year-old man who is not a citizen of the US, according to Clark County District attorney Steve Wolfson. Bill Melugin of Fox News had earlier reported that Barrios is from Guatemala and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office has no record of him entering the country legally.

After his arrest, the police investigated Barrios at length and presented their report during his initial court appearance on Friday afternoon. The police report says that some people in the casino laughed at Barrios which triggered him to “let the anger out” by going on a stabbing spree.

The report also claims that Barrios told one of his victims “sorry man” before the stabbing and hoped that the police would shoot him.

Steve Wolfson told CNN that Barrios will be charged with two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

“I am thinking about filing very serious charges based upon the evidence and what you all know occurred just yesterday,” Wolfson said. “Whether he is a citizen or not we’re going to proceed based upon the evidence in this case, so that has no effect at all.”

When asked about whether Barrios would be deported back, the attorney said that the police is still gathering evidence in the case and deportation is not an option at the moment.
