According to an arrest warrant document, Gabriella Gonzalez was with her boyfriend, Harold Thompson, 22, in a Dallas parking lot when he attempted to place her in a chokehold. She had returned from Colorado the night before. Gonzalez allegedly had an abortion in another state, which prompted Thompson to kill her.

In September 2021, Texas outlawed abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. However, since Roe v Wade was overruled this summer, almost all abortions in Texas have been prohibited, save in cases of medical emergency.

According to surveillance video from the parking lot, Gonzalez “shrugs him off” and the two continue walking. Thompson then pulls a revolver on Gonzalez and shoots him in the head. According to the complaint, she collapses to the ground and Thompson shoots her multiple times before fleeing.

Thompson was caught later Wednesday and is being held without bond in the Dallas County Jail. There was no attorney listed in court documents who could speak on his behalf.

Gonzalez’s sister was present at the site and heard the shooting, according to authorities. Another witness witnessed Thompson attempting to choke Gonzalez but was unable to call police because she did not have her cell phone.

Thompson was charged with assaulting a family member who accused him of choking her in March at the time of the shooting.

Gonzalez is not particularly named in the March affidavit as the person who was assaulted. It does, however, state that the woman told police that Thompson “beat her up multiple times throughout the entirety of their relationship” and that Thompson told police the lady was pregnant with his kid at the time.

According to the affidavit, the woman “reiterated that she is scared of the suspect because he has made threats to harm her family and her children.”
