A distressing discovery was made in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing section following a 911 call on Thursday night. At approximately 9:49 p.m., police responded to a home on the 5700 block of Broomall Street, where they found an 80-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her chest. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman has been identified as Rose Goodman.
Who was Rose Goodman?
Rose Goodman had been a resident of Broomall Street for the past five decades, much like many of her neighbors. She was described as a pleasant and nonintrusive person, well-regarded by those who knew her. Her friend and neighbor, Debbie Jackson, fondly remembered her as a great neighbor.
The motive behind the shooting remains unknown at this time, and the community is left deeply concerned about their safety.
The family of Rose Goodman released a heartfelt statement, expressing their grief and shock over the tragic loss of their mother. They highlighted her kindness, compassion, and service to the community, emphasizing that she was a Christian, a widow of a veteran, and a beloved mother and grandmother. They called for the community’s assistance in identifying the perpetrator and bringing them to justice.
“We are heartbroken over the sudden, horrific and tragic end to our mother, Rose Goodman’s life. Our mother had just turned 80. She was kind, compassionate and caring to others. She was a Christian, widow of a veteran, and the loving mother of three children and seven grandchildren. Mom lived a life in service to her community.
Our family learned that our mother was found murdered yesterday, September 7th. Our hearts are shattered by this senseless tragedy. While we reflect on the beauty of our mother and her life, we hope the community that she served, assists us in finding the person who did this to her. We do not know details about the suspect or their description, but we trust and hope the media will assist, in providing the public with information to bring the suspect to justice.
