Gal Gadot-Varsano is an Israeli actress, producer and model. Recently, she has been subjected to a lot of hate due to her comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict this week.
Gadot was crowned Miss Israel in 2004. She spent two years as a soldier in the Israel Defence Force. After that, while building her career as an actor and a model, Gadot completed her college education.
She bagged her first international film role in 2009 as ‘Gisele Yashar’ in the Fast and Furious franchise. In 2016 she gained worldwide recognition for her role as ‘Diana Prince’ or ‘Wonder Woman’ in the DC Universe. Her journey in DC began with ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (2016) followed by the solo film ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Justice League’ and Zack Snyder’s Justice League which was released earlier this year.
In 2018, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
The Israel-Palestine conflict has been an ongoing struggle that began in the mid 20th century. It has recently picked up an uglier turn after Hamas launched over 1,000 rockets in Jerusalem after the eviction of dozens of Palestinians from the city. Since then Israel has been attacking Gaza City’s Al-Farouk Tower, reported AFP.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the 36-year-old actress expressed concern for her country. In her Instagram post, she said,"My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people. This is a vicious cycle that has been going on for far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation. Our neighbours deserve the same. I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we could live side by side in peace. I pray for better days”.
Her use of the term "neighbours" and the words "My country is at war” had instantly triggered a response from her audience. The actress has now disabled the comments on the post.
