Sputnik V, Russia's COVID-19 vaccine got emergency use approval from the government of India earlier this month. The vaccine will be produced in India from next quarter by six Indian companies, including Hetero Biopharma, Gland Pharma, Stelis Biopharma, Panacea Biotec, Virchow Biotech and Shilpa Medicare, who are in contract with RFID.

The vaccine will be imported first until the next quarter when the companies will start producing the jab in India itself. The companies will altogether produce more than 800 million vaccine doses in an effort to fasten world's largest vaccination drive in India.

India has kept ramping up efforts to vaccinate maximum number of people in order to slow down the ongoing COVID crisis. More than 130 million vaccine shots have been administered since the vaccination drive began in January.
