Who will take over as Queen Elizabeth ll in 'The Crown'?

- Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth ll in the upcoming seasons
- Olivia Colman played Queen Elizabeth ll in season 3 and 4
With Elizabeth Debicki taking over the role of Princess Diana from Emma Corrin in season 5 of The Crown, we will also see a swap in role of Queen Elizabeth ll which was played by Olivia Colman in season 3 and 4. For season 5 and also for the final season (6), Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth ll.
The news of Staunton joining The Crown for season 5 and 6 was announced by the official Twitter handle of The Crown, “Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth and final season of The Crown.”
Staunton will become the third actress to have worn the crown in the series. Previously, role of the young Queen was played by Claire Foy in seasons 1 and 2 followed by Olivia Colman in season 3 and 4.
Excited to be a part of a show like The Crown, Staunton told The Hollywood Reporter, “I have loved watching The Crown from the very start. As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion.”
The Irish-English actress received critical acclaim for her role in the period drama film Vera Drake, winning the Bafta for Best Actress, along with an Oscar nomination. The Laurence Olivier Award winner is perhaps best known to people for playing Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films. She has also featured in Pride, Return to Cranford, The Girl, Flesh and Blood, A Confession and the Downton Abbey film.
