As Queen Elizabeth II will be finishing her 70th year on the throne, the royal family has announced a four-day weekend for its celebration in June 2022. The program of events that will follow over the weekend would include a parade, street parties and a live concert at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen is the longest-serving monarch in the throne’s history and will become the first to celebrate a platinum jubilee.

“The weekend will provide an opportunity for communities across the UK to come together to celebrate this historic milestone”, tweeted the royal family on Wednesday while announcing the holiday weekend.

The Queen acceded to the throne in February 1952 at the age of 25. She has already celebrated her Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees.

The royal family’s Twitter handles also announced that the ‘Trooping the Colour’ parade will begin the extended Bank Holiday weekend. The parade typically takes place on Queen’s birthday however it has been cancelled two years in a row due to the lockdown.

The Queen became a widow earlier this year in April when Prince Philip passed away.

Since March 2019 all the official royal events and proceedings have been hampered due to the coronavirus lockdown. Initially, Prime Minister Boris Johnson had announced a roadmap of ease of restrictions in the country that allowed virtually a return to normalcy later this month. However, since the country is seeing a surge in cases those plans might not unravel as planned.
