Scientist-industrialist Dr. Swati Piramal, vice-chairperson of the Piramal Group, received the “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” (Knight of the Legion of Honour) from France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna on September 16, 2022.
The highest French civilian award is in recognition of “Dr Piramal’s outstanding achievements and contributions in the fields of business and industry, science, medicine, arts and culture, both nationally and internationally”
Indian industrialist and scientist Swati Ajay Piramal works in the healthcare industry with a focus on public health and innovation. She serves as vice chair of the Piramal Group, a commercial conglomerate with holdings in glass packaging, real estate, financial services, and pharmaceuticals.
While awarding the 66-year-old, Colonna said, “Dr Piramal’s strong influence on business and industry, public policy, healthcare governance and women’s leadership is widely recognized in India and abroad. Through this award, France also wishes to recognise Dr Piramal at the highest level as a true friend of France, a driving force to advance Indo-French ties in the fields of science, arts, culture, cuisine, and business.”
This honour comes after she received the Knight of the Order of Merit, France’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2016. The businesswoman was also awarded Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, by the President of India in 2012.
