Gujarat hosted the 36th National Games from September 29 to October 10, 2022. The event was held in the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar.
Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, inaugurated the celebration. Modi, who had previously served as the state’s chief minister, said to the competing athletes at the opening ceremony, “Your victory in sports will pave the way for the country’s success in other fields. The soft power of sports will significantly improve our country’s image”.
Famous Indian sportsmen such Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, Ravi Dahiya, Mirabai Chanu, Gagan Narang, Hockey India president and former India captain Dilip Tirkey, as well as Anju Bobby George, were present for the ceremony.
The Statue of Unity and an Asiatic lion, two of Gujarat’s most well-known landmarks, are included in the event’s emblem. On July 22, 2022, the logo was unveiled.
The Indian Armed Forces Services Sports Control Board was the most successful team in terms of gold medals among all the participating states. The Services were successful in earning 128 medals across all competitions, including 61 gold, 35 silver, and 32 bronze.
140 medals were brought home by athletes from Maharashtra, who were followed by Haryana with 116 wins.
