The panda bear is endemic to China but has become popular all over the world since it pops up culturally, be it in the WWF logo or the film franchise Kung Fu Panda, where Po dreams of being the fierce dragon warrior, despite being out of shape and working in a noodle shop.

Although the numbers were much higher earlier, pandas have now been driven out of the lower areas and live in the mountain ranges of central China. They are a vulnerable species, reliant on conservation.

At one point, pandas had become endangered, but the threat level has now gone down. These creatures are often considered to be the national animal of China.

While pandas have the taxonomic classification of being a carnivore, they adhere to a herbivore diet which is mainly restricted to bamboo shoots, and grass, among other things. However, pandas prefer bamboo shoots, often consuming many of them during the day, since their bodies are structured to intake protein, but pandas only eat plants, meaning they have to compensate for the lower amount of nutrients going in.

These pandas also became part of a larger diplomatic effort. Since they are symbolically significant in China, pandas were earlier given as gifts to countries like the US and Japan, to show diplomatic ties. However, this stance was later altered to where China would only loan pandas to other nations.
