Answer: France

The Louvre is one of the busiest museums and sees a footfall of nearly 15,000 people each day. Located in Paris, the museum boasts a rich and varied collection of art that draws tourists and aficionados from all over the world.

It was initially constructed as a fortress before being turned into a palace in the 16th century and finally became a museum in 1793. The Louvre remained closed for a while when it was determined that the infrastructure could put visitors at risk.

Although many go to the Louvre for just a day, it is impossible to check out their entire collection in such a short time. The museum houses various artists of whom 66% are French and rushing through the galleries would also take 100 consecutive days to complete a full tour of the Louvre.

The world’s most famous painting, Mona Lisa, hangs in this museum. However, Leonardo Da Vinci’s work is very different up close than how it appears in pictures. Firstly, the Louvre has the priceless work of art behind a thick glass case and viewers have to find their spot in front of the painting, amid an always-thickening crowd to feast their eyes on the enigmatic subject of the Italian artist.

The Louvre has seen several important historical moments, from having its name changed to reflect Napoleon’s ego, to being a storeroom for looted Nazi art. The glass pyramid, now a marker for the museum, was added much later.
