The statue in the given picture is that of Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill, whose full name was Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940-45, during the Second World War, and again from 1951 to 1955. 

A member of the Conservative Party, Winston Churchill was ideologically oriented towards economic liberalism and was pro-imperialism. He was also a member of the Liberal Party from 1904 to 1924. 

Churchill was born in an aristocratic family in Oxfordshire on November 30, 1874. In 1895, he joined the British Army and saw action while serving in British-ruled India. He later gained fame as a war correspondent during his campaigns. 

Winston Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953. Churchill had lost the elections in 1950 but returned to power in 1951. His second term was a desperate attempt to save the British empire upon which the sun was fast setting.
