Nagaland got its second railway station in 2022, over a 100 years after the state got its first. The new railway station has come up at Shokuvi, located a few kilometres away from Dimapur. Earlier, Nagaland only had the one — Dimapur Railway Station.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio flagged off the Donyi Polo Express from the new Shokuvi Railway Station. The train service has now been extended to Shokuvi. As a result of this move, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will now be directly connected by train.
Chief Minister Rio, inaugurating the station, said this was a historic moment for the state of Nagaland. He also called upon railway officials to ensure that the Dimapur Railway Station receives adequate development funds as it serves not only the people of Nagaland but also the neighbouring state of Assam.
