Amazon Quiz (25th August 2021): Who is credited with inventing, building and flying the world’s first version of this vehicle?
(a) Wright Brothers
(b) Grimm Brothers
(c) Harrison Brothers
(d) Andersen Brothers
Answer: (a) Wright Brothers
The Wright brothers are credited with designing,
constructing, and flying the first version of this aircraft in the world. It
all began when Orville was seven years old and Wilbur was eleven. Bishop Milton
Wright, their father, gifted them a toy helicopter. They began to fantasise
about flying as a result of it. As they grew older, the boys wanted to learn
more about flight.
The Wright Brothers started a printing company. They
printed a four-page newspaper. After that, they decided to start a bicycle
repair shop. Their store first opened its doors in Dayton, Ohio. It wasn’t long
before they were designing and manufacturing their own bicycles. They still
want to fly, though.
The Wright Brothers were ready to fly their first glider by
1900. It resembled a kite. They looked into where the ideal spot to fly was.
They flew four times on December 17, 1903. The initial flight was only 12
seconds long. It travelled 120 feet. Their second and third flights each reached
a height of around 175 feet. Wilbur took the day’s fourth flight. It travelled
859 feet. It took 59 seconds to complete.
The Wright Brothers continued to research and test new
designs. They wanted to improve their Flyer. They started teaching others how
to fly. They went so far as to start their own flying school. Their invention
made them famous and rich.
In May 1912, Wilbur died from typhoid fever. Orville was
77 when he passed away in 1948. The Wright Brothers are still revered for
realising the dream of flying and forever altering the course of history.
