Antoine Griezmann, who might not be among the goals in FIFA World Cup 2022, impressed fans with his much-deeper role during France’s semi-final tie against Morocco on Wednesday. The two sides locked horns at the Al Bayt Stadium.
Several fans on social media praised Griezmann as France’s unsung hero.
“Griezmann is the unsung-hero for France! He is everywhere…” a Twitter user said.
“Griezmann be the real MVP for this team,” another one said.
“Griezmann has had a good World Cup and he’s been doing a lot of the dirty work today,” a third one tweeted.
“Antoine Griezmann’s movement is so clever. Must be an absolute nightmare to pick up. Just walks into space and then suddenly he’s away. BIGGER THREAT THAN MBAPPE 😬” a fourth tweet read.
Griezmann has changed his style of play in recent times, operating in a deeper role than he did earlier. He is not letting France feel the absence of N’golo Kante, the Chelsea player who was influential in their FIFA World Cup 2018 triumph. Kante was the midfielder who would be present everywhere on the pitch, and even kept up his tempo throughout the length of the match.
France have now made their way to the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 again, the first time since 1998, when 1994 champions Brazil were defeated by a Zinedine Zidane-led France.
If Les Bleus manage to lift the World Cup, it will be the first time since Brazil in 1962 that a team has managed to win football’s most coveted prize on two successive occasions.
