Disney on Thursday paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman by announcing
that his role in ‘Black Panther’ will not be recast in the sequel, reported
AFP.

Boseman died in August after a four-year long battle with colon cancer
without publicly discussing the condition with anyone. With his passing, one of
Marvel’s most acclaimed movie faces great uncertainty.

“His
portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends any iteration
of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past — and it’s for that
reason that we will not recast the character,” AFP quoted Marvel Studios
President Kevin Feige as saying.

However,
it was further announced that the film will be going ahead with all the varied
characters which were introduced to the audience in the first film, wherein Boseman
played the first-ever black superhero to have gotten his own film.

“To
honour the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king
of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda,” Feige
was further quoted as saying.

The
original Black Panther, ruling over the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda, was
appreciated by audience and critics alike as the film grossed more than one
billion dollars worldwide while also being nominated for the best picture at
the Oscars

The
sequel to ‘Black Panther’ is set to release in theatres in July, 2022.
