‘7Fates: Chakho’, the webtoon featuring K-pop band BTS, released today.

The urban fantasy story set in the near future is inspired by the ‘Chakhogapsa’ tiger hunters of the Joseon Dynasty in Korea.

According to BTS member Jin, the story of ‘7Fates Chakho’ starts from the city of Sin-si, which is dangerous and corrupt. The plot takes a turn when monsters called ‘Beom’ (bearing the characteristics of tigers) come to the city to hunt humans, reported HITC.

Members of the chart-topping band, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, have been active in the promotion process of the upcoming webtoon. While there is no clarity so far on whether they contributed editorially to the script, their participation and appearances imply that they had certainly approved the plot.

The characters, in particular, seem to have been heavily influenced by the band members, taking into account their physical as well as character traits, according to a report by the entertainment website Den of Greek. The character Zeha, for instance, has a love for singing and a penchant for hoodies, just like BTS’ Jungkook. Another character, Haru, wears dangly earrings, hanboks, and has the playfulness and empathy of singer Jimin.

Moreover, the entire plot surrounding seven young men bound by fate fits perfectly to the BTS journey. The official Webtoon site describes the story in the following way, “In the corrupt city of Sin-si, Zeha suddenly wakes up in a hospital, unable to recall anything that happened after speaking with a mysterious man one night. He soon learns that strange beings called beom are wreaking havoc on the city. As destiny brings seven boys together, will they succeed in ending this fight, once and for all? Let the hunting begin!”

The characters of the story include: Dogeon (RM), Hwan (Jin), Cein (Suga), Hosu (J-Hope), Haru (Jimin), Jooan (V), and Zeha (Jungkook).

The Chakho official soundtrack will be produced by rapper Suga and vocals will be by Jungkook.

The band is often known to record and chronicle the process of their participation in projects outside of their music composition and performances. More information about their involvement in the writing or plot could be revealed then.

The urban fantasy story is now available on Naver Webtoon, an online platform for web-based comics run by South Korea’s top portal operator, while the web novel version has been released simultaneously on Wattpad.
