A copy of Action Comics #1, the comic book that introduced Superman to the world, was sold for $3.25 million in an online auction on Tuesday, reported Associated Press. The comic was published in 1938. Making the announcement, auction company ComicConnect.com said that the comic “really is the beginning of the superhero genre.”

The sale made on Tuesday bested the previous record for the comic, another copy of which was bought for slightly over $3.2 million in 2014.

The seller of the copy purchased it in 2018 for $2 million.

The 1938 comic featured Superman for the first time. It told readers about the origins of the superhero and how he came to Earth from another planet.

He added that out of thousands of copies of Action Comics #1, only about 100 exist today in varying conditions.
